Yes, grains of sand! Teeny, tiny grains of sand, at great magnification (over 250x). Dr. Gary Greenberg has developed a method for photographing these miniscule grains, showing us the beauty and diversity in ordinary sand that we wouldn’t otherwise be able to see. Take a look at a few more of his images below.

Prints can be ordered of any image, and there are books available as well. I was fascinated by different rocks (yes, I had a collection) when I was young, and I think any kid that’s interested in nature and geology would be into these.
