20 Rad Dorm Decor Ideas!
Decorating a dorm room can be a bit of a dilemma. You’re dealing with small budgets, small spaces, shared spaces, dormitory furniture, cinderblock walls, the list goes on. So sometimes to make it your own takes a little bit of imagination and creativity. The flyers are coming in the mailbox with suggestions, and I thought a little inspiration might help to prioritize purchases or even save you a little money. Above: White walls and above-the-bed shelving/storage bins pull together this room quite nicely; throw in a pop of color and an interesting art piece, lighting and chair and you’ve got a really serene room perfect for focusing on studying. See the slideshow after the jump.

Janet commented on Jan 18 12 at 7:57 pmThese ideas are great and all, and look fabulous. But you forgot about one big thing: most dorms don’t let you put holes in the wall. So the wall shelves and paintings would not be feasible. What are some alternatives?
jan commented on Jan 19 12 at 12:10 pmJanet – i suppose you could get shelves that stack on top of each other. or perhaps get the closet ones that you can hang from a pole.
hannah commented on Feb 25 12 at 5:34 pmit’s a bit of a late response but instead of putting holes in the wall, you can use “command stripes.” they come in different sizes and can support different weights but it basically attaches things to the walls without leaving any marks. I’ve put up posters, frames, corkboards and even a glass shelf (I DO NOT advise this…took me about $25 worth of command stripes and it was a pretty scary situation sometimes). Command stripes are pretty cheap and there are some cheaper alternatives but those are not as good.
