Sonja commented on May 25 11 at 4:33 pmKinda gives me a paranoid feeling like what if it would fall…..But I guess if I knew it was stable it sorta seems like a neat idea.
jennifer commented on May 25 11 at 4:36 pmpersonally I don’t have one , yet ! but in the market for one . I was looking for the kanoe in one of the pics above .I think the risk is the same as one that is on the floor . everything has to have supervison.
Michelle commented on May 25 11 at 4:41 pmI’m pretty sure that there are cultures around the world who use this, and as long as it’s installed correctly it should be fine (the same as any other crib) my worry would be when the child is older, wouldn’t you have to then buy a regular crib because they would move around too much? What happens when the baby is old enough to pull up?
Jenatello commented on May 25 11 at 4:52 pmI agree, if installed correctly they can be great for little ones. They have been said to help babies relax more and they help them calm themselves if they wake up in the middle of the night because they sway a little with each movement, mimicking the womb. I don’t think we’d ever own one though because once the baby is old enough to roll, you are supposed to stop using the hanging crib. So you would have to spend more money in the long run. Not worth it in this economy.
mattie commented on May 25 11 at 5:05 pmoooh…i like them. you would only use them for the first couple months anyway, right? sort of a replacement for a cradle/bassinet. i don’t think i’ll be getting one though, because i can just see my 3 year old having a ball with that!
Jo commented on May 25 11 at 6:40 pmI seem to recall when we were looking at purchasing a hanging crib that the safety issue was not with cots falling, but with the rocking motion causing the baby to roll over onto his or her face or become wedged against the side of the cot. I have no idea how often this actually happens or if a baby can rock themselves into this situation.
Maisy B commented on May 27 11 at 3:21 amI have one and love it! I have the Leander hanging cradle. I had a heavy duty hook installed in my bedroom, and used the frame in the living room/outside. My first used it til 5mths old, and my second til 6mths old with no problems. Once they started getting more active, I moved them into their beds. Also my eldest was very gentle with it, and understood it was the baby’s bed and not to be pulled/played with.
My babies slept really well in them (compared to when they slept in a free-standing cradle or travel cot). My neighbour is currently using it, and loves it, and I will use it again when #3 arrives in November.Calling it a hanging crib is a bit deceptive. As Mattie points out, it’s actually a cradle/bassinet.
