Moms, Start Pinching Pennies Now: Lanvin for Girls
Stella McCartney makes an incredible pint-sized designer line. Gucci makes $220 baby shoes and $990 diaper bags. Bugaboo teamed up with Missoni for high fashion strollers. And now? Now Alber Elbez of Lanvin — one of the most iconic, lusted-after designer labels — has announced a girls line for spring 2012.
We can expect a first look of 25 pieces for girls (ages 4 – 10) sometime in June, but don’t expect the prices to shrink along with the designer sizes:
Lanvin Executive Thierry Andretta was quoted in New York magazine as saying, “We really want to stay in the luxury world,” saying that the fabrics will be about ten times more expensive than typical children’s clothing fabric.
But this isn’t a brand new idea for Lanvin. Did you know that Jeanne Lanvin, the founder herself, started out making mother-daughter outfits and sketching for little fashion-forward tots until the mid-1930s? (The above picture is a sketch from Lanvin herself.)
So basically the collection is going to be incredible and will cost more than most of us can even fathom spending. But it sure will be fun to see what they come up with. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we see the first pictures — so stay tuned!
