A “Red, White, & Coo” Baby Shower for Military Families
Forty expectant military moms-to-be from Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C. gathered for a baby shower thrown in their honor by Operation Shower on April 13. Operation Shower is a non-profit organization that provides baby showers for military families. All of the women that attended had husbands who were deployed overseas, and most would still be away when their babies were to be born. There were many surprises in store for the women!
There was a “Shower in a Box” filled with baby essentials like diapers, wipes, towels, and blankets. In addition, Pottery Barn Kids was raffling off a Madison 3-in-1 Crib as a grand prize. Little did the attendees know, everyone would be receiving one!
First Lady, Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden each made surprise guest appearances to show their support for Operation Shower, but more importantly to show their support for the moms-to-be. Martha Stewart was also in attendance, conducting a scrapbooking demonstration.
The shower was styled by Hostess With the Mostess in patriotic red, white, and blue. Massive bunches of red flowers, striped curtain panels, and paper daisies made the shower look spectacular.
What an amazing event for some very deserving women!

Amy’s(Chief Event Coordinator) vision for a “Vintage Toy” theme was made that much better with Jenn’s graphic designs. Everyone was blown away by the attention to detail!

Laura B commented on Apr 29 11 at 9:30 amwhat a joke. military wives are leeches who like to play the martyr. where is the shower for pregnant military women? women who actually have jobs, contribute to society in a real way, AND make babies.
Bridget Maney commented on Apr 26 12 at 12:43 pmWOW Laura!! I personally have been on both sides of this fence. I have been married to my active duty husband for 16 years, served my country PROUDLY for 10 of those years in the United States Navy, and am now a PROUD military wife and mother of our 3 children; 2 of which I delivered during my active duty time and 1 after my honorable service! I have many active military women and military wife friends and can tell you that BOTH serve this country!! Believe me when I say that these military wives are in NO way leeches and give more to the military than they are recognized for!! And YES these women also HAVE JOBS either in the work force or as DOMESTIC ENGENEERS, yes that’s right running a house hold IS a full time job!
These women also ACTIVELY CONTRIBUTE to society, most of the time SUPPORTING those of US in uniform!! These women are not only active in their community, but also hold down the home front while their husbands are away. They are Mother, Father, Counselor, Comforter, Moral Officer, Nurse, Accountant, Chef, Chauffer, Referee, Gardener, Handyman, Tutor, and a gamut of other rolls allowing her husband to focus on the job he has to do, so that he AND the people around him can come home to their families.
To answer your question about “Where’s the baby shower for the military women?, depending on which branch you serve in there are MULTIPLE opportunities available to the military woman for moral, financial, and other forms of support both during her pregnancy and after the birth of her child. She, like the military wife, must search these services out.
Granted as with ANYTHING there will always be a few bad apples that make the whole bushel look bad, that goes not only for the military wives but also the MILITRAY WOMEN!! I can’t help but feel sorry for you that for some reason you have chosen to be a negative response to a cause that is trying to make life a little easier for others; however, I refuse to allow your negativity to go unchallenged. For your sake I pray that you are afforded the privilege to get to know some of the GOOD apples out there that exist in both the military wives and military women as I have.
