Stop Driving Like a Jerk! I’m Pregnant!

SignOfLabor Car Decal In Use 02 Stop Driving Like a Jerk! Im Pregnant!

We’ve all seen the classic “Baby on Board” decals, which are obviously designed to say PAY ATTENTION (or something with more expletives) to all of the way-too-rushed, careless drivers on the road. (Or, as our Baby’s First Year blogger suggests, to warn others of the distracted, sleep-deprived woman behind the wheel.)

But it’s not too hard to notice a car seat protruding from the back seat, let alone window shades or the random stuffed animal in the back window. Is the bright yellow sign necessary?

Yet when I was pregnant and driving for three hours a day on the New York State Thruway, I seriously wanted a bullhorn to scream at the reckless cars whizzing by and cutting me off, who really had no indication that my unborn child was next to the steering wheel. Which is why I think these Sign of Labor decals and flags are brilliant — and not just for pregnancy:

Not only do you get a car decal with this Sign of Labor package, but you also get a flag to announce to slow pokes (and police) that you’re in labor and rushing to the hospital! Is it as effective as a blinking red siren? Probably not. But what a cute pregnancy or baby shower gift. And for only $20, why not? If you just want the decal minus the flag, it’s only $6. (You can even shop right on their Facebook page!)

They also have cute flags for doulas and midwives, which serve as both a warning (outta’ my way!) and a way to raise awareness for the wonderful service you provide.

Sign of Labor is offering free shipping through today (Oct. 8 ) and will donate 5% of October’s sales to the Midwives Alliance of North America. After all, it’s National Midwifery Week, which you can read more about on our Being Pregnant blog.

this is awesome! except I can just see me forgetting to put it on the car until I’m already in labor and then I’m like “WAIT WAIT WE HAVE TO PUT THE SIGN ON” (similar to “WAIT WAIT I HAVE TO PACK THE GO-BAG,” eight weeks ago).
