“Like” Breast Cancer Awareness in Style
Have we all figured out what the “I like it” Facebook statuses mean by now? No, your best friend’s mom isn’t announcing “I like it on the floor” in a moment of oversharing, but rather she’s telling her 468 friends that she likes to put her purse on the floor.
Confused? It’s a way to bring women together (and exclude men, apparently) to promote Breast Cancer Awareness month, which is now. (Read more about it from our Strollerderby blogger, Paula.) Nice idea; strange execution.
But it got us thinking: How else can we encourage and support Breast Cancer Awareness? Of course there are a ton of “pink” products on the market that donate a percentage back to a charity or organization that supports the cause, so we compiled some of the more original options out there. (In fact, they’re all from Etsy, so you can support breast cancer awareness and the handmade movement all at once!)
The above purse by Etsy shop K8made just might be that purse that everyone is talking about on Facebook. It’s pink, feminine and oh so pretty — plus it’s only $30.
The Etsy shop The Beanie Bum Company will donate a percentage of the profits of this Cherry Blossoms Beanie, $25, to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, in memory of her Aunt. Bonus: In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, she’ll also send you a matching cherry blossom ring.
When you buy this pretty PINK Glory ring ($22) from The Pink Locket, 50% of the proceeds will be donated to Witness Project of CT, which helps at-need women receive free or low cost mammograms and breast screenings.
The entire Courage For Kristi shop is in honor of the shop owner’s friend, Kristi, who lost her battle with breast cancer. Every last cent of the proceeds will go towards college funds for Kristi’s three young daughters. There are over 35 items in her shop — 100% of which goes toward the college funds — from a pretty dog collar ($15) to these beautiful 2010 Kristi Earrings ($20), above.
