The New Bugaboo Donkey: The Ultimate Double Stroller?
Bugaboo is expecting a brand new addition to their popular baby stroller collection, which was unveiled to the media this morning. Finally — finally — Bugaboo decided to tackle the most dreaded part of parenting multiples: the double stroller.
While I haven’t seen this in person yet (it’s debuting at the Kind & Jugend Fair in Cologne, Germany tomorrow), I recently tested out over 20 double strollers for an upcoming Babble Best feature (stay tuned!) so I can confidently say the Bugaboo Donkey is setting out to fix the most common problems of double strollers.
Find out why this baby stroller is such a big deal after the jump.
A) It converts from a single stroller to a double in three clicks, adding longevity and convenience to your buy.
B) It converts to a side-by-side stroller instead of having a pouch underneath, as most convertible strollers do, which is great for kids close in age or for twins.
C) It was designed to have increased storage with an expandable side luggage bag as well as an undercarriage basket. This, by the way, is the single biggest problem with double strollers: double the weight, double the width, half the storage.
D) Speaking of width, the single Bugaboo Donkey is the same width as the Bugaboo Cameleon (60 cm), and claims to be the narrowest luxury side-by-side stroller at 74 cm.
E) It maneuvers like a Bugaboo, obviously. Again, I haven’t personally tried this out, but comparing many of the double strollers I tested to my own Bugaboo, I can only imagine that maneuverability will not be an issue.
While we don’t know the price points, keep in mind that this is a luxury double stroller, so we’re expecting it to be quite pricey. Would you be willing to pay for the added convenience and style?
The Bugaboo Donkey is expected to hit shelves around April 2011.

The New $1659 Bugaboo Donkey, A Sign Of The (Distant) Times | Being Pregnant commented on Apr 13 11 at 1:56 pmbmarshall commented on Sep 15 10 at 12:18 pmi think this is fantastic…but why the name donkey? doesn’t have quite the ring that chameleon, frog, and bee have.
MAria commented on Sep 15 10 at 1:31 pmI love how it looks, but, I hate the name!
madplanner commented on Sep 15 10 at 2:47 pmI think I’d still take the Phil & Ted’s (very happy user here). This Donkey is still so wide, and I’m sure super pricey. And what the heck is with the name?
Sarah commented on Sep 15 10 at 2:50 pmi know why they named it that – because you’d be an “ass” to pay whatever they’re going to try and charge for this double stroller :)
Naomi commented on Sep 15 10 at 3:46 pmLOL at Sarah’s comment! I agree!
Lyn commented on Sep 15 10 at 4:59 pmI could use a donkey. And a pack
Mule.
Laura commented on Sep 15 10 at 5:13 pmLOL at Sarah’s comment too! But I have to admit that I’d be in that “ass” category if my kids weren’t already 2 and 4 :)
DelishMagMom commented on Sep 16 10 at 12:45 pmI actually would be willing to fork out the extra money, whether that makes me an ass or not! I have bad Rheumatoid Arthritis and we have a Bugaboo Chameleon, and it’s actually very easy for me to use. I would expect the same function from this one…and am quite relieved that they are finally giving parents of two kids this option. We’ve only got one child for now, but if we do decide to have another, this is on my list.
Jess commented on Sep 17 10 at 11:23 pmWOW its cool how it can turn from a single pram into a double and in reverse… that will save $$ in the long run! And I much prefer sife by side seating as opposed to the phil and Teds where one baby is only inches from the dirty floor.. But I am only planning one more so will never get to try this one out :( ‘less we have twins :D
Don’t like the name either.. doesn’t suit a sweet baby pram!
vater staat commented on Sep 21 10 at 1:09 pmPefect idea – a really nice design but a quite confusing name for a stroller. just hope that the won’t double the price for almost two stroller in one. Tiffany commented on Sep 22 10 at 1:42 pmOh I love this! Too bad it isn’t being released until April ’11. I’d buy it if I could get it before mid-January. lol
Nikki M commented on Sep 24 10 at 2:36 pmThis is such a smart design. I cannot wait to see it in person. I own the Chameleon and my friends and I who are expecting or have 2 have been wishing for this stroller!
Soledad commented on Sep 25 10 at 3:09 amI absolutely LOVE it!!! Having just had my 2nd only 14 months after my 1st, I am in need of a double stroller but cannot seem to find the right one being used to my Chameleon. Bugaboo is sooo easy to manouver it makes me hate others. PLEASE, PLEASE, can anyone tell me if there’s any way I can get hold of one before April???
xxx commented on Oct 13 10 at 3:28 pmI hate the name……… I wish they go for Butterfly or fly instead.
April Kane commented on Oct 20 10 at 1:05 pmvery cool! It’s about time Bugaboo came out with a double stroller!!
kim commented on Oct 20 10 at 10:06 pmQuite frankly, it is way too wide. I have the Phil & Ted and love the fact that I can squeeze through anything. I just think the width of the donkey will limit where you can use it.
SarahW commented on Mar 31 11 at 2:26 amThis looks like a great stroller, however I’m sure it is way outside my price-range :(
