I Have A Love Hate Relationship With My Duvet

Do you use a duvet/down comforter and duvet cover? I’ve been using them since I married (a whopping 15 years ago) and love them. They’re super cozy and make for a comfy, beautiful bed. Plus, you can change out the cover when you’re ready for a new pattern or color. Brilliant!

Except when they’re not brilliant. Which is every morning of your life.

Because the corners of the duvet will have moved around in the night. And you’ll spend the first 10-20 minutes of your day swearing at the duvet under your breath as you try and shift it back into place. Or. You’ll do what I do on busy mornings. You’ll leave the duvet + cover heaped in a pile on the floor and let your kids play in it while you brush your teeth.

Happily, ChezDuvet promises to make your mornings easier. Keep reading to find out how.ChezDuvet uses a technology called CornerKeepers on all their comforters and covers. It’s a really simple concept. A really simply, genius concept. The corners of the comforter split open like a little mouth and and grab the corner of coordinating covers. Velcro seals the deal. From what I hear, using this technology, a duvet cover can be put on in less than one minute. And once it’s in place. It stays in place. Check out the diagram:

I can’t wait to see this concept implemented in my favorite bed linen lines. In the meantime, maybe I’ll retrofit the ones I already own.

P.S. — I’m not the only one that thinks CornerKeepers is a great idea. It was named a finalist for Best New Product at NY International Gift Fair.

This is absolutely brilliant!!! Where has Chez Duvet been all my life! Definitely looking into this.

I’ve always used large safety pins in the inside corners of my duvet covers. You can’t see the pins at all since they’re on the inside. It’s a cheap and easy fix for any duvet!

I’ve been married for almost a year and one of the things we invested in was a beautiful duvet and feather bed. We love it but I have been wondering how to better manage the BLEEPing duvet-within-a-cover situation. Now I know! Thank you, Gabrielle, for sharing this! Thank you Chez Duvet for your innovation! I’m going to retrofit our duvet asap. :)

I have a Pottery Barn duvet cover that has twill tape ties in each of the corners–just bunch up a corner of the duvet and tie it right to the duvet cover. They would be super easy to add to an existing duvet cover.

This is fantastic. About ten years or so now, Martha Stewart suggested sewing some high quality 1/2 inc. width ribbon to each of the corners of the comforter and the inside corners of the duvet. Double knot each corner together. It has worked wonderfully.

My mom just found out this trick from her quilting group and it’s CHANGED MY LIFE! We too are big duvet fans. Here’s how to create the magic: All you do is take a SMALL safety pin and turn the duvet cover corners inside out and tack the pin to the corner of your duvet.
GENIUS!
and since the safety pin is so small, it doesn’t create any unnecessary bulk. Anyway, thought I’d pass it along! I hope it rocks your world like it has mine! :)

I don’t know what you all do at night =) I’ve always had a duvet – even as a small kid and that never happens to me…

I have the same problem with duvets… I finally had my mom quilt the duvet cover on to the comforter because it was making me so crazy. I’ve tried the safety pin thing and it worked for a while, but my kids ended up ripping a hole in the duvet cover where it was pinned. Maybe I’ll try the Chez Duvet thing… I do like how easy it is to wash a duvet cover, rather than trying to wash a ginormous comforter…

Funny that Martha mentioned that 10 years ago, since I recently bought a duvet cover from her line of bedding that did NOT have ties in the corners. What the heck?

Pottery Barn is not consistent with putting ties in. Target just surprised the heck out of me, though. I ordered a Liberty of London duvet cover and there were ties inside! YIPPEE!!!

These days, if it doesn’t have ties, it gets returned. Not worth the hassle for my husband and I.

Bed Bath & Beyond sells little padded clips for clipping the comforter to the inside corners of the duvet ($5.99 / pkg of 4). They work great, never come off and are so small they aren’t noticed. I actually use 2 sets becasue I put my down comforter inside an allergen barrier bag then put the bag in the duvet. Even with 2 sets of clips, they don’t get in the way and can’t be seen from the outside..

I have been using a duvet & cover for 30 years. Every comforter/duvet I have had came with straps in the corners and every cover has had ties sewn in the corners. So I am mystified by this nonproblem. Buy from The Company Store and you will not have this problem.

The company store duvets have a piece of fabric sewn on around which you are supposed to tie the twill tape. And they are awesome.
