My Fashionable Friend Friday: All Black and A Brown Bag Make Olivia A Chic Girl

The other night My husband and I had dinner with my new (and much younger) friend Olivia, and her fiance. At their suggestion, we dined at Marlow and Sons, a hip restaurant in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Over cocktails and deep fried corn on the cob we learned the details of their romantic engagement in Paris.
But as much as the good food and the betrothment tale—not to mention the actor, Josh Hartnett, sitting at a nearby table—captured my attention, I couldn’t stop thinking about how chic olivia looked in her minimalist ensemble. It wasn’t super trendy or cutting edge, it was just simply stylish.
What was it she wore? A beautifully tailored and well-fitting black blazer (like this one), a tissue thin and perfectly worn-in black t-shirt, skinny black pants, and black pumps. Her only piece of jewelry (besides her engagement ring, of course) a delicate gold necklace that said “I Love New York”, was a sublime choice. But the best part was her one piece that broke away from the monochromatic look: a slightly weathered brown satchel (similar to this). The handbag took her from blending in, to standing out in the crowd.
The look was effortlessly stylish and cool, not to mention flattering. To me it is the perfect go-to outfit for any woman; the reliable, trusted garments a girl can turn to when she is standing in front of a closet full of clothes chanting, “I have nothing to wear.”
See examples of the rest of the look after the jump.
