Happily Coexist with your Baby’s High Chair
One of the biggest mistakes I made as a new mommy was buying a cheap, tacky high chair. I didn’t think much about it at the time, because I was clueless. I was constantly washing the fabric cushions, trying to get food out of the tiny cracks and spaces in the plastic, fumbling with sliding the tray off and on – not to mention it was a total eyesore.
Needless to say, one week after using it I was ready to toss it. Sadly, I had to keep it for two more years. We finally got rid of it and replaced it with a Tripp Trapp, which we still use today. Had this beautiful, modern, non-cluttering Tavo High Chair been in my sights, maybe I could’ve avoided my high chair catastrophe entirely!
This contemporary and sleek high chair from Monte Design features everything you need to happily coexist with your baby’s high chair. Monte Design Group was founded by designers Ralph and Michelle Montemurro who envisioned comfortable, functional and design-driven products for the nursery and home. The Tavo High Chair features:
- Solid maple wood base with a clear finish
- Soft upholstered, recycled leather seat
- Polished aluminum seat belt buckle
- Permanent T-Bar
- Adjustable seat belt
- Leather seat wipes clean easily
You can find the Tavo online at MonteDesign in brown, black or white leather and a variety of wood finishes. It retails for $299.

[...] To save money, we picked up a white, plastic high chair. It was such a nightmare to clean and fumbling with the tray made me crazy. I almost snagged my kid’s fingers in it – as well as mine – a zillion times. Anyway, read more about the terrific Tavo in my post on Babble’s Family Style blog. [...]

Erin @ Letter Soup commented on Aug 26 10 at 1:42 pmI’m so glad there are better options now! Too late for me though. Fortunately we’re almost finished with our gigantic, gross chair.
Andrea -- StuffWeMake.com commented on Aug 26 10 at 7:02 pmThat’s a great high chair! I really do prefer a high chair with a tray, though. Mine is like this one: http://bit.ly/9g2vMD It looks great and I get complements all the time. It also works great as a kids’ bar stool without the tray. When we have hosted a buffet, I’ve covered the tray with a large cloth napkin and used the high chair to hold a punch bowl. I think it’s great if a high chair actually looks like good furniture, instead of some blow-molded plastic monstrosity!
