Baby Stockings2 300x229 Eco Fashion: Transform too Small Tights into Sweet SocksEco-fashion is certainly claiming it’s spot as force to be reckoned with when it comes to style. Did you see the article on Yahoo today about the New Dress A Day blog? An uber-frugal fashionista in West Hollywood used her unemployment to launch a new project in life – transforming 365 ugly frocks in 365 days for $365. It’s an unbelievable story with compelling before and after photos. In the article, Marisa, the gal who started the project, says she appreciates the “romanticism of wearing clothes from earlier time.”

Maybe you have the creativity and sewing skills to recycle old clothes into current duds, but you just need a bit of inspiration…

Well, take a look at Ruffles and Stuff. Many of her cute ideas are so simple, a tutorial isn’t even required. One of the projects she showcases on her blog is how she turned her daughter’s old tights into adorable knee-high socks. And it only takes three easy steps:

1) – Cut the legs off of your tiny tights at the top (lower, if they’re for big girls)

2) – Fold the top edge of the leg over once toward the inside, and lay some elastic on top (she uses 1/2″ wide), just below the very top of the fold.

3) – Sew the elastic on with a zig-zag stitch, keeping the top edge of the tights folded under as you go, and being careful not to stretch the elastic or the tights.

If you want to add more, embellish away with bows, flowers, lace or whatever your heart desires. How sweet!

This is a great idea for someone like me who can’t part with any baby stuuf. Now I can keep them and use them. Two birds, right?
