Beat the Blahs: 5 Recession-Friendly Baby Gifts

BabyLegs Gallery Beat the Blahs: 5 Recession Friendly Baby GiftsLet’s face it, the recession has definitely taken the fun out of gift giving, among other things. I’m not sure what your magic gift number was, but I’m assuming it has dropped significantly. I know mine has. A few years ago, I loved shopping for baby shower gifts and birthday gifts because it wasn’t always about the price. Don’t get me wrong. I couldn’t buy my best friend’s baby a $135 Burberry infant cardigan or anything, but I had the freedom to spend a bit more with less guilt.

My children have outgrown baby stuff, but I still love looking at it online and in stores. I was in a boutique called Jordyn’s Closet last weekend and found a few beautiful baby gifts that are what I’d like to call, recession-friendly. None of them are over $15 and they’re all well-crafted, unique, cute and fun.

When it comes to value and functionality, it’s hard to beat BabyLegs. I think the leg warmers are probably one of the best baby gifts around. One look at a pair of these cheerful warmers and everyone in the room will be smiling. I think Mud Pie is another brand that consistently delivers innovative baby gifts. Anyway, here’s my list of five gift ideas under $15. What’s your favorite item?

Tunes from Rockabye Baby (the digital download package is $14). I have great memories of putting my baby to sleep to the (soft!) melodies of Metallica.

Favorite gift to give and receive are SwaddleDesigns blankets! Their Marquisette blankets are only $14! SO great because they are big and have swaddling instructions on a tag sewn to the seam and new parents can follow the pictures on the tag to make an excellent swaddle. Then their baby sleeps! They can use the blankets for so many things other than swaddling too, like in the carseat or as a playmat or a nursing cover. And they have really hip designs…so you’re not just giving them some cutesy thing you’re giving them something they will really need and USE and they’ll love you for it!

Those are my favorite pair of BabyLegs pictured! Love those maryjanes, too! I’ve been giving Sticky Bellies from stickybellies.com quite a bit (and often give them WITH a pair of babylegs, which still makes for a reasonable gift!) All of my friends appreciate the unique gift and the fact that it’s NOT another baby blanket or outfit! :)

books like Baby411 or What to Expect…. And monthly stickers for onesies from pickysticky.com. And a package of diapers!

I love the BabyLegs but shopping for them can get very addicting, lol.
