A First Look at Fall from J. Crew

The other day a friend of mine sent me an email with the subject line: Thought of you. She proceeded to tell me that she had gone into J. Crew, and she thought they were channeling Isabel Marant— in a good way. Isabel Marant, the incredibly talented French fashion designer who recently opened her first store in New York, is one of my current fashion obsessions. And trust me, I am not alone in that. Intrigued, I immediately went to the J. Crew web site, and found that the first of the Fall collection had landed. C’est magnifique, indeed!
As I delved deeper into the site, I stumbled upon fabulous piece, after fabulous piece (all amazingly styled) and found it incredibly difficult not to load up my cart and and click myself a new Fall wardrobe. Alas, my conscious got the better of me and I restrained. Though I remain hopeful that in a few weeks—which in my fantasy life, is the time I will stumble upon some discretionary income—some of these pieces will still be available in my size. In the meantime, I am thinking of you, and decided to share a few of my favorite things from J.Crew’s newest collection. See them after the jump
Ok, I know at first glance this price tag seems a bit high, but all you have to do is look closely at this fantastic jacket to realize why. And if that’s not enough, how about the rows of hand-dyed marabou feathers it’s made from, and the silk chiffon lining? Sadly only a handful exist, so if you can, snap one up as they are sure to quickly fly off the shelves. $1,200. jcrew.com
Admittedly, I am a sucker for cool sweatshirts, but this hoodie brings a whole new meaning to casual chic. It’s made from a luxuriously soft and lightweight Japanese terry cotton and finished with raw-edged exposed seams. $65. jcrew.com
These pants are the perfect balance of tough and tender. The grosgrain ribbon tie and ruffles peeking from the waist are the perfect counterpoint to the camo fabric. And you can’t fight their appeal. $79.50. jcrew.com
Yet another fabulous and unique piece, Mongolian lamb vest has been dyed and finished in Paris by an artisanal haute couture mill. (Tres Chic!) This is a piece you will wear for years to come. $800. jcrew.com
There’s nothing like the look of perfectly worn in leather, and there’s nothing wrong with having it done for you. These boots made from Italian leather, then cracked and distressed are go-to shoes for Fall. $215. jcrew.com
Unabashedly indulgent, this tote, like the vest, is made from Mongolian lamb that’s been finished at a famed French mill. It features leather and antiqued gold-plated curb chain handles, loads of pocket and a top hidden magnet closure. It will elevate the cool (and fabulous) factor of anything you wear—and you can (and should) wear it with everything. $795. jcrew.
