Summer’s Best Accessory: The Wrap Bracelet
When I was a girl, no summer was complete without some sort of arm candy. It was either a friendship, sailor knot, or lanyard bracelet. When I was seven it was just a simple piece of colored string. They adorned my wrist from the last day of school in June to the first in September—withstanding chlorine, salt water, and sun—until they literally fell off.
In true “you can’t take childhood out of the girl” fashion, I brought back my treasured summer arm accessory a few years ago, in the form of a leather wrist wrap. I pretty much wear it 24/7 from memorial through labor day, at which point it’s packed away in my jewelry drawer —more for a keepsake as I generally buy a new one each year. My Summer 2010 version is this Giles & Brother hook with leather lashing which I pair with two other bracelets
Just like the bracelets I wore as a girl, the wrist wrap is the perfect summer accessory. The ones I’ve worn have been leather and can brave chlorine, sunscreen, and saltwater (in fact many actually look better at the end of the season once they are weathered a bit). I highly recommend trying one this summer (and for the record, there is no reason not to wear it year round). Given that it’s just the beginning of July, you still have 9 weeks to never take it off. To see some of my favorite wrist wrap stars read on.
The wrist wrap is a mainstay in Chan Luu’s collection and this one screams summer. $170 Ron Herman.
The $12.50 price tag of this leather wrap makes it easy to latch on to the stud trend. Delias.
This metallic silver wrist wrap by Clare Vivier (my favorite bag designer) was my mainstay last summer. $69. Clare Vivier.
More of an investment piece, this patent leather with skull wrap by the late, great Alexander McQueen should probably be kept out of the water but still adorned daily (and definitely year round). $250 Saks Fifth Avenue
If you seek something more delicate, this Ettika tan leather peace wrap bracelet with 18k yellow gold plated peace sign is a great option. $95 Max and Chloe.
For those who like to Rock, this Linea Pelle double wrap bracelet hits a slightly more sophisticated note. $65 Bloomingdale’s
The addition of the 18k gold plated chain gives this wrap by Gorjana a feminine feel. $72. Shopbop.com
Showing it’s true summer colors, this toffee and turquoise leather wrap bracelet by Jem Couture is ripe for the season. $48. shoprumor

Sam commented on Mar 06 11 at 9:48 pmWhy would you spend $50 on a woven bracelet you could easily make yourself, like you did as a kid, for like, $10. Go to a craft store, spend $50 to get like, ten rolls of the stuff in various colors, and make one for everyone in your entire neighborhood, if you’re going to spend $50. I don’t want to live on the planet anymore.
