Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate Slow Cooker Cocktails: Hot Chocolate for the Grown Ups

I am all about slow-cooker entertaining. I adore making slow-cooker dips and the other days I did a little experiment just to see if I could make slow-cooker grown-up hot chocolate. And, it turns out, I could. I got the idea from the way my mom used to make mulled cider and keep it warm in the crock-pot at parties. I figured, why not do it with hot chocolate? I added all of the ingredients to my slow-cooker and turned it on for the afternoon. By the time the party started, a few friends over for dinner, it was piping hot and ready to serve. I couldn’t believe it had turned out so well. I was quite relieved I didn’t even have to tuck into my back-up cocktail plan. The beverage stayed warm all through the party and people ladled steaming hot chocolate into their mugs to their hearts content. The perfect slow-cooker cocktail for winter, indeed.

Slow-Cooker Hot Chocolate

8 cups 2% milk

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup cocoa powder

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 cup clear vodka (optional)

Pour all of the ingredients into the slow-cooker and turn it on high heat. Whisk the ingredients every 30 minutes for the first hour and a half, then leave it to heat for the final hour and a half. By the third hour the hot chocolate should be smooth and hot. Stir in the vodka if using. Turn the heat to low and allow the hot chocolate to stay warm during the party, stirring as needed!
