7 Spins on Cocktail Sauce for New Year’s Eve Shrimp Cocktail
Shown Above: St. Elmo’s (almost) Cocktail Sauce by The Curvy Carrot
There’s something about shrimp cocktail and New Year’s Eve parties that go hand in hand. Even when my husband and I are are just having New Year’s Eve with our family, I always like to get some shrimp for an appetizer, if nothing else. They are pretty and everyone always loves them. You can cook and peel your own shrimp, or buy them pre-cooked. I like to cook my own, because the ones in the store that are pre-cooked never seem to be seasoned enough for my tastes. I like to boil them in Old Bay, it makes them taste so good.
For the cocktail sauce, I always make a homemade version. Homemade is super simple, and so much better than any of that jarred stuff. A simple recipe I like is to use a good quality organic ketchup, some high quality jarred horseradish, a little Worcestershire and hot sauce (Louisiana brand is my preferred in cocktail sauce) and mix it together to taste. But there are also many more ways you can make some great cocktail sauce.
Impress your guests this New Year’s eve and make 2 or 3 of these different sauces to set them out with your shrimp.
