A New Twist on Nutella: Homemade Peanutella
Why should hazelnuts get all the attention? Peanut butter and chocolate is a classic combo, and it’s utterly simple to make a spread just like Nutella using the jarred peanut butter and chocolate chips in your cupboard. This smooth, creamy chocolate-peanut butter spread is like a peanut butter cup you can spread on toast. We plowed through a batch, and have plans to mix up more to fill jars and give as holiday gifts – far less fussy than homemade candies and other confections, and very well received.
Start with equal amounts of creamy or chunky peanut butter and chocolate chips – if you want to get fancy, use good-quality chopped dark or semisweet chocolate.
Put them into a glass or Pyrex bowl together and microwave for about a minute.
Stir until smooth – the lumps of chocolate will work themselves out with the heat of the peanut butter.
Once chilled, it will firm up but should have the spreadable consistency of Nutella. If not, warm it again with another spoonful of peanut butter, stirring again until smooth.
Pour into jars, refrigerate, and serve. Yum.
And please, do try to share. ‘Tis the season for giving.

Off to value village for some pretty jars…

Andrea commented on Dec 13 11 at 11:06 amI’m totally making this with NoNuts Peaspread and Enjoy Life chocolate chips for my nut and dairy allergic child! She’s always wanted to try Nutella, this will be a close second!
Lisa commented on Dec 14 11 at 7:01 pmGenius! Especially because while I like Nutella I don’t LOVE it because I’m just not a hazelnut fan. I saw a recipe ages ago combining equal parts nutella and canned milk to make a base and then freezing it in an ice cream maker, and this would be wonderful as ice cream, though might be hard to imagine right now in the winter.
