Caramel apples are one of my favorite things about October. This is the simplest caramel apple recipe I know – streamlined using Kraft caramels, those soft, square chewy beauties I inevitably wind up hooked on at this time of year. To make these you’ll need apples, a bag of caramels and wooden popsicle sticks or coffee stir sticks – if you like, dip the bottoms in chopped peanuts, small candies or sprinkles. You’ll have a batch of fresh caramel apples – perfect for a party – ready in under 20 minutes. Easy.

Ingredients:

6-8 small apples
6-8 wooden sticks
1 14 oz. package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions:

Wash and dry the apples and iInsert wooden sticks about an inch deep into the stem end of each apple. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Combine caramels and 2 Tbsp. water in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring often, until caramel melts and is smooth. Stir in the vanilla.

Dip each apple into the caramel and gently swirl to coat with caramel. Scrape excess caramel from the bottoms of the apples along the side of the saucepan. If you like, dip in a shallow bowl of chopped peanuts, candies or sprinkles. Set on the lined sheet and let stand at room temperature until set.

Makes 6-8 caramel apples.
