Candy Snack Mix Better than *Bleep*: Halloween Candy Snack Mix

I swear, if there is one single candy creation you CAN NOT MISS this Halloween, it is this candy snack mix. I found it in this month’s Food & Wine in a round-up of fantastically awesome candy recipes by Christina Tosi, the well-known pastry chef off Momofuko Milk Bar. She is known for drawing a lot of inspiration from everyday candy and childhood treats like pretzels and potato chips. For this snack mix she melts together butter, pretzels, milk powder and candy into one amazing combination of buttery, salty and sweet. I swear, this little bowl was gone lickety-split after I photographed it. Eating it is like eating all your favorite candy flavors at one. We used Reese’s Pieces because they had a nice Halloween look to them, but you could really use almost any candy you want. I can even imagine that that this would be a GREAT way to use up leftover candy on November 1st. Enjoy!

Halloween Candy Snack Mix

adapted from Christina Tosi from Food & Wine

2 cups coarsely broken pretzels

1/4 cup light brown sugar

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1/3 cup dry milk powder

6 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 regular bag Reese’s Pieces

1 Hershey bar broken up into small pieces

1. Preheat oven to 275F. Line a small baking sheet and set aside.

2. Melt the butter and pour it into a large bowl. Stir in the sugars and milk powder until fully combined. Stir in the pretzels and spread them on a lined baking sheet. Bake for about 20 minutes until light brown and fragrant.

3. Allow the pretzels to cool completely before breaking them apart and adding them to a small bowl and tossing them with the Reese’s Pieces and Hershey Bar pieces. Serve.

This is totally the treat-mix for me! Yipee! Okay, okay…I will give my daughter her share. LOL! I was just kidding, it’s just that something this great brings back childhood memories.

Thank you for posting this! I recently mail ordered 4 pounds of Martin’s Pretzels and have been fretting that they’ll go stale before I can eat them all. With the help of this recipe, I have a feeling they’ll be gone in no time!
