How to Peel a Head of Garlic in Less Than 10 Seconds

Posted by julievr on September 29th, 2011 at 1:27 pm

A chef friend taught me this trick years ago — how to peel an entire head of garlic quickly, without using your fingers or fancy garlic tools. Another friend tweeted me this link yesterday — it’s a wonderful segment with Todd Coleman, Executive Editor of the stunningly beautiful Saveur Magazine (what a job!), who demonstrates perfectly how to peel an entire head of garlic using two bowls. It’s very cool to watch — it’ll blow your garlic-lovin’ mind!

Saveur also has some pretty fab garlic recipes, now that you’re in the mood. ‘Tis the season for Garlic Scape Pesto, or try Garlic Custard with Chanterelles and Parsley Sauce (that uses 4 whole heads of garlic!), simple Garlic Confit, garlicky Aïoli or Polenta Fries with Spicy Garlic Dipping Sauce. No one will mind your breath.
