 Italian Cookbook GIVEAWAY: Cucina Povera

Italian food is my favorite food on the planet. I’m not alone in my adoration and with good reason. Italian food is quite simply delicious. It uses simple, seasonal ingredients to make satisfying meals. With more than 60 peasant-inspired dishes from the heart of Tuscany inside Cucina Povera, author Pamela Sheldon Johns has put together quite a collection of recipes of “good food for hard times.” that anyone would be lucky to have including dishes such as Ribollita (Bread Soup), Pollo Arrosto al Vin Santo (Chicken with Vin Santo Sauce), and Ciambellone (Tuscan Ring Cake).  And because you can never have too many cookbooks I know you’ll want to add this one to your collection!

I had the best Ribolita from this tiny place on the outskirts of Florence. No one spoke English so I ended up with a bowl of Ribolita and it was amazing. I haven’t found one that was the same yet, but I’m thinking I should try to recreate it myself. This cookbook would help and if it has a good gnocchi recipe I’m sold!

So many… but I love fresh pasta with extra virgin olive oil, garlic, toasted pignola nuts and parmesan cheese.

Ilene Mitnick commented on Aug 26 11 at 7:12 pm

Oh, where do I start? :) There are too many to mention! However, the best, in my opinion, properly cooked home-made pasta, plus real home-made, zesty, garlic-infused meatballs, and fresh, home-made from fresh tomatoes, sauce.

My favorite Italian dish was anything cooked by my late grandmother Rosemary Caravella. But if I had to choose – it would be her faccacia bread, made from scratch. One day, I will swallow my tears and prepare it in her honor.
