Doughnuts Red Velvet recipe 2 Time to Make the Doughnuts...(Baked Red Velvet Donuts – photo courtesy of Deborah, Taste and Tell)

Doughnuts seem to be all the craze in foodie world right now. I started noticing doughnut recipes popping up on blogs earlier this year and became intrigued with making my own baked cake doughnuts at home. So intrigued that I finally bought my own doughnut pan a couple of months ago.

So what are cake doughnuts you ask? If you are only familiar with Krispy Kremes then you are in for something a little different. Cake doughnuts are made with a batter, and have the texture similar to cake (hence the name). They are more dense and hopefully moist than yeast doughnuts which tend to be more spongy and light. I’m sure there are people who are on one or the other side of the fence when it comes to which doughnut they prefer but I kind of stand in the middle, depending on my mood.

For those who have been wanting to try to make their own baked cake doughnuts at home, here is a nice collection of tasty looking recipes for you to try. Pour yourself a nice cold glass of milk and enjoy!

Do you have a favorite cake doughnut recipe you’d like to share? Leave it or a link to it in the comment section!

I love my new doughnut pan : )
Thanks for the roundup of recipes. I’ve only made powdered and cinnamon sugar but I want to try other varieties.

Aggie, I grew up on my mom’s fried cakes (as we called them). I even did a post with her at her home making them. Needless to say, they aren’t as healthy as a baked donut, but in moderation, there is nothing wrong with them. :) http://www.grumpyshoneybunch.com/2008/10/sunday-with-mom-chocolate-giveaway.html

I just ordered a new donut pan. I make many varieties of yeast donuts (maple bacon, margarita, pina colada, chocolate, strawberry daiquiri), but now I want to make some cake versions too! Those all look delish!
