Fried Green Tomatoes 002 533x800 The Best Fried Green Tomatoes

Fried Green Tomatoes are a Southern delicacy and are a must try if you have not. Whether you serve them as an appetizer, a side dish or even an afternoon snack they’ll disappear quickly. You’ll need medium-large sized firm green tomatoes to make these. A typical medium-large tomato will yield 4-5 slices.  Once battered and fried they have a beautiful crunch on the outside and are amazing juicy on the inside. They’re made even better when served with remoulade sauce for dipping.

Fried Green Tomatoes
What you’ll need:
2 medium-large firm green tomatoes – sliced
salt/pepper
1/2 cup flour {additional if necessary}
2 eggs – beaten
2 tablespoons milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil

What to do:
1. Season sliced tomatoes with salt/pepper. Set aside.

2. Place oil into a shallow saute pan and heat over medium-high heat.

3. WHILE oil is heating. Lightly sprinkle flour onto both sides of seasoned tomato slices. Set up your dredging station by placing: eggs, milk, salt and pepper into a shallow dish. Whisk to combine. Into a second shallow dish add flour. Take lightly floured tomato slices and dip them into egg mixture. Coat both sides. Transfer to flour. Coat both sides. Tap off excess.

4. CAREFULLY place breaded tomato slices into oil. Do not crowd pan, cook in batches if necessary. Cook slices until golden on both sides. Transfer fried green tomatoes to a plate lined with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
