Wild Berry Smoothie
I’ve been wanting to try one of those Wild Berry Smoothies at McDonald’s ever since they came out. But since we rarely go there, I decided to create my own version of a wild berry smoothie at home. I used lots of delicious mixed berries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. I used a bag of frozen mixed berries for convenience, but fresh fruit would be even better. To slightly sweeten my smoothie and add even more flavor, I learned a neat little trick from Sommer at A Spicy Perspective. I saw in her recent simple strawberry smoothie post she adds a little strawberry jam. Believe me, it is wonderful. It not only adds just the right amount of extra sweetness, but even more intense fruity flavor. For my smoothie I added raspberry jam, but you can add whatever berry jam you have handy. To add another layer of flavor, I added a squeeze of fresh lime juice. I used soy milk, so the acid didn’t curdle the milk. If you use a dairy milk, I would omit the lime juice.
Wild Berry Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups mixed berries (blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries) fresh or frozen
1/2 cup vanilla or mixed berry yogurt
1 tablespoon raspberry (or any other berry flavor) jam
1 cup soy, almond, rice milk or lowfat milk (use non-dairy if adding lime)
the juice of 1/2 a lime (omit if using cow milk)
a few ice cubes
Method
1. Combine fruit, yogurt, jam, milk and lime juice in a blender.
2. Add ice and blend on high until smooth.
