Butter-Crisped Caramel Banana Shortcake
Strawberry Shortcake, there’s a new guy in town, and he’s a heckuva lot hotter than you. This Butter-Crisped Caramel Banana Shortcake is super simple and to-die delicious. Angel food cake is slathered in butter, then cooked until golden brown on a hot skillet. Top that with banana, caramel sauce, whipping cream and toasted coconut and you’ve got yourself a dessert so good,y ou’ll never go back to that old ex of yours. Who needed strawberry shortcake, anyway?
Butter Crisped Caramel Banana Shortcake
- 6 slices angel food cake
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 can high-quality ice cream caramel
- 2 barely-ripe bananas
- whipping cream
- 1/3 cup toasted coconut
Heat a griddle or skillet over a medium-hot stove. Slather butter on each side of the slices of angel food cake then grill until golden brown in hot skillet. Top immediately with caramel, bananas, whipping cream, and coconut. Enjoy!

I. HAVE. BEEN. SEARCHING. FOR. A. BANANA. SHORTCAKE. RECIPE. FOR. WEEKS. I saw a picture of a banana shortcake on the flaps (you know, those annoying covers they put on magazines when you order them in the mail, covered with ads?) of Southern Living, and I thought: ‘Ohmygoshthatsoundslikethebestideaever!’ Yes, I’m 23 years old and I got that excited over a banana shortcake recipe. So I went and tried to find it on Southern living .com… and nada. Couldn’t find it anywhere! I was going to try making regular strawberry shortcake, just with bananas, but THIS… Oh, this recipe will be SO much better! I thank you and your creative abilities in the kitchen!
