Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork Sandwiches
This is an incredibly flavorful pulled pork recipe that uses, you guessed it, Dr. Pepper. It takes all of about 5 minutes to put all of the ingredients into your slow cooker and then you pretty much forget about it until dinner time ; ) It doesn’t get much easier. If you don’t happen to have a slow cooker you could also make this in the oven just as easily.
I also love how budget-friendly this recipe is. If you’re making it just for your family you can use the extras to make one to two additional meals. I’ll be sharing my recipe for pulled pork tacos with you shortly.
It’s also perfect for upcoming get-togethers like Memorial Day, Fourth of July, or Labor Day when you’re feeding a crowd! Who doesn’t like a bbq sandwich, right!
Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork Sandwiches
What you’ll need:
5-6 pound Boston butt
1 onion – minced
4 teaspoons cayenne pepper
2 teaspoons dry mustard
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
3 cups Dr. Pepper
bbq sauce
sandwich buns/rolls
What to do:
1. Turn your slow cooker to 225 degrees. Add onion, place Boston butt on top {fat side down}. Sprinkle cayenne, dry mustard, brown sugar and Worcestershire on top.
2. Pour apple cider vinegar and Dr. Pepper over top. Cover and cook approximately 6-8 hours, until meat is tender and pulls apart using two forks. {Check meat every so often and turn about half way through}
3. Remove pork from slow cooker and place into a large bowl {discard liquid}. Using 2 forks pull pork pork apart. Discard any bones and excess fat. Once pork is completely pulled add desired amount of bbq sauce of choice. Mix to combine.
4. Serve over toasted sandwich rolls/buns.

Anything that uses a Texas favorite (Dr. Pepper) is a-okay with me.

Alan commented on Aug 15 11 at 8:44 pmEasy, fun recipe! We put a 5 lb. pork butt in the crock pot before work. When we got home it was falling apart tender! We served it on sweet Hawaiian dinner rolls with a tangy sauce. Next time we go to a superbowl type party we are definitely bringing Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork sliders!
