Angry Bird Donut Holes: Wood Breaker, Glass Jaw and Those Pesky Pigs!

Angry Birds is sweeping the nation. No, really. Angry birds. They’re in the car, in the house, at the bus stop. You think I’m joking, but the pigs stole their eggs, and they want them back. My sister has them. My brother tosses them. My kids steal my phone so they can have them, too. That’s right. I finally gave in and downloaded Angry Birds on my phone. The result has been somewhat unsettling, as my 4-year-old appears to be rather skilled at this, and even the 2-year-old thinks that tossing birds into wood, ice and stone structures and watching them “poof” is great fun.
To get in on the fun myself, I turned a few donut holes into my own kind of angry bird. A tasty one. I don’t know that these are considered cake balls, but they’re similar. Just with whole donuts. I like doughnuts. You say donut. I say doughnut.
Angry Birds Donut Holes (Cake Balls)
donut holes (white powdered sugar holes for the red birds)
candy melts (green, red, blue)
Runts candy or other fruit-shaped pieces
white jelly beans
small white circle sprinkles
small black peppermint patties or black licorice
black edible marker
Red Wood Breaker Angry Birds: Powdered sugar donut holes dipped in red candy melts, leaving the bottom white exposed. A strawberry-shaped candy is the beak. A halved jelly bean (Jelly Belly coconut flavor is what I used) for eyes with edible black marker and two edge pieces of a tiny peppermint patty became the eyebrows. The feathers on top of his head are piped red candy melts; allow to harden and then secured with the same.
Blue Glass Jaw Angry Birds: Donut holes dipped in blue candy melts. A banana-shaped candy serves as the nose. Eyes are two small white circle sprinkles with edible black marker dots. Feathers are the same as for the red birds, only in blue.
Pigs from Angry Birds: Donut holes dipped in green candy melts. Lime-shaped candies serve as the ears and the nose. Halved white jelly beans are the eyes, with edible marker as the nostrils on the nose and as the pupils for the eyes.
