How to Hard Boil Eggs: Get It Right Every Time
Every gorgeous Easter egg starts off as a plain old hard boiled egg. And everyone knows the how-to on boiling eggs, right? Not so fast–the road to perfect hard boiled eggs can be fraught with difficulties: cracked or chipped shells, leaking egg whites, or over- or under-done yolks. Luckily, there’s an easy egg boiling method that avoids all of these potential pitfalls and gives you excellent eggs every time.
Foolproof Hard Boiled Eggs
12 eggs
water
1/2 teaspoon salt
Fill a large stock pot with cold water. Carefully place the eggs along the bottom in one layer (use a large pot so they have a bit of space). Add the salt, and bring water to a boil. Once the water is boiling, keep a close eye and adjust the temperature so that you maintain a gentle boil for 1 minute. Cover the pot, remove from heat and allow the eggs to stand for 12 minutes or even longer. Remove the eggs, cool, and then dye away.
