Angry Birds Fruit Faces: A Fun Healthy Treat
As the last person in America with a flip phone, I didn’t even know what Angry Birds were until a couple months ago. But after I found out about them, I began to see them everywhere. For example, 75% of people on the subway at any given moment are playing Angry Birds. While I haven’t played the game yet, I understand that it’s quite addictive, and I have to imagine that part of what makes it so addictive is the cuteness of the birds themselves.
At Brooklyn Supper, we’re always looking for ways to make healthy eating addictive so we made these Angry Birds fruit faces. With pineapple and watermelon, these fruit faces are a snack that’s not loaded with sugar. But they’re so cute, your kids won’t miss it. We’re all about improvisation, so we’d love to hear your ideas for other ways to execute these in the comments.
Angry Birds Fruit Faces
1 watermelon, sliced into circular sections
1 pineapple, sliced into circular sections
fresh coconut slices
licorice whips
1 orange, pulled into sections
Cut the watermelon and pineapple slices into the shape of the red bird and the yellow bird. Cut the coconut into the shape of eyes and the white feathered areas of the birds. Cut the orange into the shape of the beak. Use the licorice whips for pupils, eyebrows, and feathers.
