Pasta 101: Gigli
Did you know that there are more than 300 pasta shapes? That’s right, pasta comes in more than just one size, shape and even color! Making the pasta possibilities truly limitless.
Today we’re showcasing GIGLI or it’s sometimes known as CAMPANELLE. The word GIGLI, is Italian for “Lilies”. Gigli is said to have originated in Florence {where their town symbol happens to be what else, a Lily}.
Gigli, is a short fluted dried pasta that is rolled in the shape of a cone/flower and can have ruffled edges. It is important to pair pasta with sauces that compliment that pasta shape. Gigli pairs well with chunkier, heavier sauces. It is also fantastic for use in casseroles.
Here are a few recipes that you can make using GIGLI/CAMPANELLE:
Pasta ai Broccoli {Pasta with Broccoli}
Campanelle alla Mozzarella {Campanelle Pasta with Mozzarella}
