If you don’t know Angie Dudley, aka Bakerella, you surely know her greatest creation: the mighty cake pop. But, though baked goods are her specialty, Bakerella offers other sweet treats, like the brilliant confection she calls Reindeer Chow (recipe after the jump).

I poke around Bakerella.com often, but was surprised when my last visit, meant to focus on holiday yummies, had me lingering on the non-baked Reindeer Chow. I know. Who peruses Bakerella’s recipes and ends up with a non-baked good? But, people, we’re talking crunchy cereal coated with a mixture of peanut butter and chocolate dusted with confectioner’s sugar. Um, YUM! And not to mention the easiest and fastest holiday munchie recipe you’ll ever find.

If you ask me, you have to be a creative genius sweets maker to come up with something like Reindeer Chow and cake pops (i.e., the perfect bite of cake on a stick). So, when it came time to begin work on my holiday baking plan, I decided to reach out to Bakerella directly. I needed to know: What Would Bakerella Do?

Okay, technically I needed to know What Does Bakerella Do During the Holidays, but that doesn’t quite flow. So, let’s not get technical. Instead, let’s get to her answers.

How far in advance do you begin your holiday baking?
I don’t do a lot of advance baking. Before I started blogging, I usually only baked treats right before Christmas Eve for our family get togethers. But now I imagine, I’ll start a bit sooner.

What piece of advice is the single most important for a novice baker to keep in mind?
I would say to not be intimidated. Just dive right in… and preheat your oven. : )

Which of your recipes is the easiest for a beginner holiday baker? Which will give an experienced baker a good challenge?
All of the recipes on the website are relatively easy. I think the most temperamental one I’ve tried is making macaroons though. But they are so worth it if you can get them right. And so beautiful, too.

What are your favorite holiday flavor combinations to play with?
I’m pretty easy to please. Chocolate. Peanut Butter. Chocolate. Chocolate.

Have a baking secret that you’re willing to share?
How about a confession? I’ll eat brown sugar by the spoonful when it’s called for in a recipe. Just one spoonful though. Okay, maybe two.

Only when I run out of sweets.

Okay, so maybe that last question was thrown in to make me feel better. But, of course, Bakerella doesn’t have baking disasters. You know what, though? I’m okay with it. It makes me feel like everything is right in the world.

Reindeer Chow

5 cups Crispix Cereal
1 cup peanut butter
12 oz. package of semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1 box confectioner’s sugar

1. Melt chocolate in microwave 1 minute at a time until melted.

2. Add peanut butter to melted chocolate and mix well.

3. In a large bowl (with a snap on lid), add melted chocolate and peanut butter to top of cereal and mix well.

4. Add confectioner’s sugar and cover bowl with lid. Shake well to coat thoroughly.

If you don’t have a bowl with a lid, you can place the coated cereal and confectioner’s sugar in a large ziploc bag and shake well.
