Pimp Up Your Whipped Cream
To top your Thanksgiving pie you won’t need a whipped cream recipe per se – all you need to know is to not overwhip it, or it will start to get heavy and eventually turn into butter. Whip chilled heavy (35%) cream on high speed with an electric mixer until it forms soft, billowy peaks – when this happens, stop beating and serve it immediately. To sweeten, add a teaspoon to a tablespoon of sugar per cup of cream – do this according to your taste, and use regular sugar, brown sugar, maple sugar or powdered sugar – whatever you like. The added bit of cornstarch in powdered sugar will help to stabilize your whipped cream.
Beyond the basics, here are a few ways to add bling to your cream:
Kahlua Whipped Cream: beat 3 Tbsp. Kahlua with 1 cup chilled whipping cream and 1 Tbsp. powdered sugar
Maple Whipped Cream: sweeten your cream with maple syrup instead of sugar
Cinnamon Whipped Cream: beat 1/2 tsp. cinnamon with 1 cup chilled whipping cream and 1 Tbsp. powdered sugar
Brown Sugar Whipped Cream: beat 1 Tbsp. dark brown sugar with 1 cup chilled whipping cream
Bourbon-spiked Whipped Cream: beat 1-2 Tbsp. bourbon with 1 cup chilled whipping cream and 1 Tbsp. powdered sugar
Coffee Whipped Cream: beat 1/2 tsp. instant espresso powder (or to taste) with 1 cup chilled whipping cream and 1 powdered sugar
Peppermint Whipped Cream: beat 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract with 1 cup chilled whipping cream and 1 Tbsp. powdered sugar
Vanilla Whipped Cream: beat 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract with 1 cup chilled whipping cream and 1 Tbsp. powdered sugar
