Some People Love a Butterball Turkey on Thanksgiving. I Prefer Veggies.

For my family, like many others, the Butterball turkey is what everyone looks forward to (aside from dessert and wine), and the Butterball turkey is always at the centerpiece of our Thanksgiving table. For me, not so much. No, I’m not a vegetarian. I’m not a member of PETA either. I just don’t like eating turkey on Thanksgiving.

The weirdest part is, I’ll eat turkey on sandwiches. But if it’s the kind of turkey you think of when you think of Thanksgiving — whole, and all cooked and dressed up — you can count me out. It’s something about seeing the entire body of the turkey ready-to-eat and all in one piece.

If I see it or think of it even resembling a live turkey in any way, shape or form, I get grossed out. This also applies to when my dad makes those big rotisserie chickens. Ew. Maybe I’m just an animal lover, but then I guess I’d be a vegetarian always and not just on Thanksgiving. Maybe I’m crazy, which is likely (I know my family thinks I am — they laugh at me every year when Thanksgiving rolls around). But the one thing I know for sure is, Thanksgiving turkey makes me sad.

So while you’re eating turkey tomorrow, I’ll probably be filling up on all the delicious side dishes I can stomach. No offense to turkey — it’s nothing personal. I’m actually on turkey’s side!
