Review: I received the Chocolate Cake mix and frosting, a package of Chocolate Brownies and the Alot’a Dots Cake and Frosting Mix. For each product, my family (only my husband and I knew) had some and we also brought them to soccer practice. We did not tell anyone we were reviewing the products from Naturally Nora until after they ate a piece.
Brownies: The mix was easy to make and bake. The brownies tasted much better than any boxed variety I have ever made. All of us loved the brownies as they were moist and not too rich. I made them in a stoneware 8 x 8 and they came out looking beautiful. The only negative to me is that the gorgeous crust was bubbled up so when I cut into the brownies, it crumbled and did not look so nice anymore. However, they tasted great and the bubbled crust could have been a result of the pan.
Chocolate Cupcakes and Frosting. I am so happy to have a mix I can proudly use for the times I do not have the time or energy to make them from scratch. I must admit that when you open the package, you did not have the same smell as you do with the traditional mixes but the taste was all there! I did notice that it was easy to dry them out if you overcook them even slightly however, I am sure that is what some of the nasty ingredients in a traditional mix is for – yuk. I would prefer to keep a better eye on my baked goods.
The frosting was perfect and everyone raved about it. Since all great cakes need great frosting, Naturally Nora created a quick and easy all-natural frosting mix. The secret? The use of real egg whites to make them whip up light and fluffy. The frosting is ready-to-spread in under five minutes whether whipped by hand or mixer.
Alot’a Dots Cake and Frosting: I was afraid that the vanilla cake would have no flavor and be boring but I was wrong. I was also careful to not cook them too long. The result: moist and fluffy. The frosting was amazing and we had fun shaking the dots on the cake. Please note thought that the frosting is not as white as it appears on the box and that is due to the butter so it looks more like a cream color.
Did you see in the photo that we also put some of the Alot’a Dots Frosting on the Chocolate cupcakes? Perfection.
