Presenting the Kumquat Mojito
I love taking advantage of seasonal food. I look forward to each time a fruit or vegetable comes in season and right now it is almost time for the Kumquat.
I bet you are you thinking ‘What is a Kumquat?’ Kumquats are a small, orange fruit related to the citrus family and grow on an evergreen tree also named Kumquat. They are native to Asia however, are grown in Florida and California.
Knowing that I would be looking for the fruit soon, I did a quick search on the internet today for recipes that interested me. The recipe that first caught my eye was the ‘Kumquat Mojito’.
Yes, I wrote Kumquat Mojitos. Tami of the blog ‘Running with Tweezers’ is sharing the recipe from the book Mix Shake Stir that I am sure you will find enjoyable.
Kumquat Mojitos – makes one drink – recipe originally found in MixShakeStir by Danny Meyer
•2 1/2 kumquats, halved
•8 fresh mint leaves
•ice
•2 oz. white rum, preferably Myers’s
•1 oz. fresh lime juice
•1 oz. Simple Syrup
- Muddle the kumquats and mint leaves in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and the rum, lime juice and simple syrup and shake vigorously. Pour the contents – including the fruit and mint – into a Collins glass and serve.
