Labor Day Picnic Fare: Ideas for Your BBQ Menu
Labor Day started as a recognition of the people working in trade and labor organizations in the United States and Canada. However, nowadays it’s generally signaling the end of summer. We use it as an excuse to have one last hurrah in the backyard filled with grills, neighbors, relatives, lawn games and maybe even a parade or two.
If you’re looking to send off summer in style, you’ll need a proper menu, and we here at the Family Kitchen have been collecting some of our favorites just for the special occasion. Here are our top Labor Day Picnic Picks from appetizers to salads and burgers to dessert. We’ve got you covered.
Appetizers
Chili-Lime Deviled Eggs | Perfectly poppable eggs spiced up with a bit of Southwest flare.
Portabella Rosemary Caprese Skewers | Caprese salad infused with rosemary and a grilled mini portabella that’s the perfect late-summer treat.

Salads
Broccoli Crunch Salad | Sweet and tangy and full of crunch. My broccoli-loving kids are going to adore this.
Plum and Tomato Salad | The perfect use for all those garden tomatoes overflowing from the garden and the market stands.
Sides
Yo Momma’s Chipotle Baked Beans | Make ‘em. Yo Momma said so.
Grilled Corn on the Cob | We started grilling our corn years ago and haven’t looked back. I can hardly remember the last time we boiled an ear.
Main Course
Buffalo Burgers with Blue Cheese Sauce and Celery Slaw | If you like buffalo wings, you’ll love these burgers.
Sweet Cola Barbecue Sauce and Baby Back Ribs | Hello. Who doesn’t love a good, sticky rib, and one basted with cola barbecue sauce is sure to be just that.
Dadburger Deluxe | For big mouths only (or small mouths armed with forks and knives)
Mediterranean Bison Burgers | A new twist on the classic cheeseburger.

Desserts
S’mores à la Carte | The perfect do-it-yourself picnic dessert.
Grilled Pound Cake and Grilled Strawberries | Dessert that’s thrown together on the grill is perfect for a backyard barbecue.
Watermelon Bombe Ice Cream Cake | Ice cream cake that looks like a slice of summery watermelon is sure to win over the kids and the grown-ups alike.
Chocolate-Ricotta Icebox Cake | Simply divine. This cake has only four ingredients, but it has loads of flavor.
