IMG 7285 300x210 Labor Day Fest : Mediterranean Bison BurgersLabor Day means burgers and we all want them to be juicy and flavorful. One challenge I set for myself this year is to create a unique but not complicated burger so I went to my fridge and decided to add flavor with Hummus.

Yes, the hummus that we only think of as a dip is more versatile than you think. Some uses that I have experimented with lately with great success have been a hummus stuffed chicken breast and hummus mashed potatoes.

Now, I have ventured into using an Spinach & Artichoke Hummus as a topping for a Bison Burger and it was even better than I expected….

Ingredients: 4 servings
1 pound ground bison
1.5 teaspoons reduced fat mayonnaise
1/4 cup old fashioned oats
1.5 tablespoons minced parsley
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
3 Tablespoons olive oil or olive oil spray
4 Handfuls of baby salad mix
1/4 medium sweet onion, sliced
1 large tomato, sliced
½ cup Spinach & Artichoke Sabra Hummus
4 hamburger rolls, split

Directions:
Brush or spray grill with olive oil and preheat the grill.  Combine bison, mayonnaise, oats, parsley, garlic powder, paprika, salt & pepper. Mix well and then form 4 patties. Grill burgers to preferred wellness.

Place the bottom of the rolls on plates. Spread a layer of hummus on the bottom bun. Top with burger, lettuce, tomato and onion. Press the top of the roll in place and enjoy.
