Eggs3 Salmonella Outbreak: Egg Recall List by Brands With more than 200 confirmed cases of Salmonella in California, 28 in Colorado, 7 in Minnesota, and unconfirmed reports in Arizona, Illinois, Nevada, North Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin, medical officials are calling this the most severe egg recall in years. Can I use pasturized egg, name brand Southern Home

cheryl callaway commented on Aug 21 10 at 2:35 pm

I have been very sick for last 4 days. I am better today so started reseaching the salmonella egg recall. I had eaten eggs at a restaurant in Monett, Mo. I don’t know what symtoms of salmonella poisoning are but I have been so ill I didn’t think I was going to survive. I didn’t get to go on vacation to Tennessee as I was so sick. Severe stomach cramps, diahrea and vomiting. I am very dehydrated. Have not eaten since that morning I ate the eggs, 8-16-10. Very very weak. Could I have the salmonella poinsoning?

Karron Beck commented on Aug 21 10 at 2:43 pm

wow…freaky

Andrew commented on Aug 21 10 at 3:26 pm

I live by the old adage “when in doubt, throw it out”. Seems appropriate here. However, I just got done boiling 20 eggs that were in my fridge and going to make some deviled eggs and maybe some egg salad. Folks, that’s all it takes. Boiling questionable eggs for 10 minutes will kill anything!

F.Y.I.: Pasteurized eggs are completely safe.

Jan Brooks commented on Aug 21 10 at 4:31 pm

Karron-it sounds as though you had it, and fought it off. The salmonella is killed if the eggs are properly cooked all the way through…no runny yolks, etc. If you’re feeling better, it sounds like it’s run it’s course, but you need to stay very, very hydrated and eat some healthy foods, starting light with something like soup. The key is to be sure that the eggs are completely cooked.

Susan commented on Aug 21 10 at 5:01 pm

Cheryl-there is no mention of Southern Home brand being recalled…they’re out of Mauldin, SC (I was checking to be sure, and that’s where I found this article). They say it’s only the eggs in shells, so if you’re using the pasteurized, you’re safe.

Susan commented on Aug 21 10 at 5:01 pm

If a certain brand is recalled, how can they say that one size of their eggs is safe and another size isn’t safe? I bought Lucerne jumbo eggs, and now I find out that the Lucerne large eggs are recalled. If it were you, would you eat the jumbo eggs???

Becky commented on Aug 21 10 at 6:35 pm

How safe is food purchased,at fast-food chains, since there are usually multable “handlers”? Are large chains required to enforce any additional”preparing” and “handling” procedures, with the recent salmonella outbreak?

Alicia O'Hara commented on Aug 21 10 at 7:30 pm

Im a bodybuilder,so im a big believer of eating eggs.Knowing we just had a egg recall for the outbreak of salmonella, what about egg whites.

egg whites commented on Aug 21 10 at 10:16 pm

I am a chinese people.I got this news firstly in our TV news. I found that all the american eggs look white. But in china all the chicken’s eggs look yellow.why?

Max commented on Aug 22 10 at 12:38 am

Hey bodybuilder, whites are the worst. The salmonella in whites has a delayed effect, and if you’ve eaten more than 2 in the past week, you’re gonna get very sick. Very soon. Just wait for it. Sorry dude!

EGGS KILL commented on Aug 22 10 at 5:34 am

@ bodybuilder … I would avoid eggs altogether for the time being, if you can. If nothing else, just keep up to date with the recall list & lot numbers that are tainted. I believe it doesn’t matter if it’s the egg yolks or whites… all parts of the egg can be affected.

Barb commented on Aug 22 10 at 9:17 am

I am a huge believer in throwing eggs at my neighbors house.

Unkle Festis commented on Aug 22 10 at 11:42 am

Why can’t I print out the list of brands affected by the reclal on your list.
I have printed the entire article several times and all I get is comments.

Beverly Brewer commented on Aug 22 10 at 1:36 pm

my wife works at hillandale akron ohio i always have eggs for breakfast from hillandale never have had any problems. plan on having eggs for breakfast tomorrow.

gib moffit commented on Aug 22 10 at 2:56 pm

Hi Max. We have brown eggs here in the states too. They’re a little less common, but most stores have them. The difference is just the breed if chicken that lays them. Some breeds lay white eggs, others lay brown or speckled eggs. There’s no nutritional difference, but in my experience brown shells are a little harder to crack. Supposedly white eggs are cheaper because the breeds that lay them (White Leghorn, maybe others?) require less food.

Aaron commented on Aug 22 10 at 3:21 pm

I have a question. I buy my eggs at Kroger Store in Detroit, MI. They are shipped to the store in Kroger egg boxes. How do I know where these eggs originated?

Jerry commented on Aug 22 10 at 4:46 pm

Hey, body builder, the guy that responded saying that you were going to get sick, that the salmonella in whites has delayed effect is trying to scare you. Granted, you shouldn’t be eating uncooked whites but he was goofing on you. Look at salmonella.org for more scientific info.

doctor mark commented on Aug 22 10 at 5:04 pm

It would really be nice if there was one comprehensive, COMPLETE list of eggs recalled. It seems I’m seeing updates, but not a complete list. Come on, FDA!!!!!

Joyce Bailey commented on Aug 22 10 at 7:44 pm

MAN LAST NIGHT I WENT TO THE LIQUOR STORE AND THEIR EGGS HAVE THAT WHY DONT THEY SUE THAT PLACE THEY ARE GETTING A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE SICK

KAITLYNN commented on Aug 23 10 at 3:59 pm

I think that Max was talking about the color of the yolk. That’s controled by the food given to the hens, and there is a regional prefference for color amoung consumers. It’s kind of like salted butter sells better in some areas than others, so that’s what’s stocked.

Jan commented on Aug 24 10 at 9:29 am

lets not freak out here! cook your eggs all the way! scrambled is best! return any that are listed! i use both whole eggs and egg product every day!

joe commented on Aug 24 10 at 10:03 am

I assume you haven’t gotten sick from the recalled eggs Joe! I have been sick the last two days from the bad eggs. It was not pretty! I am wondering whom we contact about a lawsuit? When we, as consumers, purchase food from the grocery store – we expect it not to make us sick. If we were doing business the way the egg producers do business, we would be sued too. Maybe we should stop giving money to the bastards that cage chickens and feed the public bad eggs. Next will be a chicken recall! Any information on whom to contact would be great – are the any class action suits going yet?

Let's not freak out?!?! commented on Aug 24 10 at 2:53 pm

@ Jerry http://www.fda.gov/Food/NewsEvents/WhatsNewinFood/ucm223536.htm updates daily. The P number and julian date are on the side of the carton. Most of all, don’t panic.

Stuart commented on Aug 25 10 at 6:48 pm

I have salamonella poisioning from eating eggs at a restaurant in Taylorsville, Nc on July 29th. I became ill on July 30th and was hospitalized on August 1st. Salmonella was confirmed.I was discharged on August 4th but the salmonella returned on August 10th. My doctor says it is in my gall bladder and it keeps secrecting it into my system. A 7 day treatment of antibiotics has not helped. I am now waiting to have my gall bladder removed. According to the health department the brand of eggs I had to eat Wholesome Farms which is on the recall list. There is no way of knowing the plant number or julian date on the eggs because they were from a restaurant supplier. I have now been ill for over 30 days and lost over 35 pounds. This is some serious stuff.

Jim Cessna commented on Sep 01 10 at 1:04 pm
