If you’ve been following the Wright County Egg recall, you’re probably wondering what the current egg recall list and numbers are. Several media outlets including CNN and Fox News have reported the numbers reaching 380 million eggs recalled due to the salmonella contamination that now spans companies in 17 states after the Galt, Iowa company added additional batches to the recall yesterday.

Several brands are included in the recall in California, Arizona, Missouri, Minnesota, Texas, Georgia, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Nevada, Iowa, Illinois, Utah, Nebraska, Arkansas, Wisconsin and Oklahoma. Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms, Kemps, James Farms, Glenview and Pacific Coast have all been named in the recall. While the recalled eggs are not on the shelves anymore, they may still be in your fridge, so be sure to check the numbers on your cartons to see if the eggs are part of the recall.

The Food and Drug Administration updated the recall Wednesday, August 18th. Eggs that are part of the recall have been sold in six-, 12- and 18-egg cartons and as loose eggs for institutional use and repackaging. Look on the end of the carton or case label plant numbers (beginning with P) from 1720, 1942, 1026, 1413 and 1946 followed by Julian dates from 136-229.

The FDA reported that Wright County Egg has been cooperating with the investigation, and they have voluntarily sent all existing in-shell egg inventory to be pasteurized by a breaker, which would kill the salmonella existing on the shell.

How do you know if you have been infected with salmonella? Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramping, fever and can be accompanied by headache and chills. Large concerns are dehydration and for people more at risk, including infants, elderly and people with weak immune system. Prevent spread by avoiding food with undercooked eggs like meringues and Caesar dressing until the recall is over, and seek medical attention if your condition worsens or if you are in an at-risk population.
