YUM! Food & Family Magazine – For Kids
Two weeks ago I was in Cape Cod for our family vacation and I wanted some magazines for the beach. I decided to veer from the trash magazines and find something with some substance and boy was I thrilled to find a new magazine called Yum Food & Family For Kids.
While glancing at the table of contents, one of the author’s names jumped out at me….
The author was Kristin Doyle of Dine & Dish who I have known for a year now so I called and asked her a few questions regarding this wonderful new magazine:
1. Please tell us a bit about Yum Food & Family For Kids and their philosophy towards feeding your family: Yum Food & Family for Kids is designed for kids who love to cook and the parents who cook for them. We have recipes for busy moms who want to feed their kids delicious, healthy, fun food. What I really love about this magazine is that we have ideas for Moms, but also recipes for Moms and kids to cook together. We also include at least one recipe a kid can cook by her/himself. It is so important to teach your children early on the value of cooking for your family and healthy eating. We have tried to incorporate that philosophy into one great magazine!
2. Fill us in on some of the features you have upcoming and the focus of your articles: We are just wrapping up our October / Halloween issue. We have included some really fun ways for parents to get their kids more engaged at mealtime with theme dinner nights and activities tied into dinner time. If you are thinking about throwing a Halloween party, we have some delicious “spooky” recipe ideas for you to cook up. And, as always, there are some neat products being featured this month that I think parents are going to go crazy for. It is an issue jam packed full of great things!
3. Please share some of your tips about getting your kids to eat healthier foods: Getting kids to eat what’s good for them is not always an easy task. I have often found that the easiest way to get my children to eat vegetables is to sneak it to them. No… I’m not talking about mixing black beans into your brownie mix or adding pureed cooked squash into your pancake batter. By “sneak it to them” I mean taking food that is good for them and turning it into something that looks appetizing and is fun for the kids to eat.
Make sure you try her recipe for Parmesan Zucchini Strips and Creamy Dipping Sauce.

Jill C commented on Aug 18 10 at 8:41 pmThis is awesome! I have a kid that loves to cook who wanted her own website – so we launched http://www.cupcakekidcafe.com – for kids who love to cook, so this magazine is the perfect recommendation! Is there any where I can pick up a copy online to order – I have not seen this in the central NJ area and would love to get my hands on one!! Kristen, I wish you much success with it!
