Gossips are wagging their tongues over Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling’s couple-like behavior at Cannes. Maybe it’s all wishful thinking. I mean, look (look!) at the picture—cute as a button, both of them. Or maybe it’s for real. Or maybe it’s a result of the intense filming, and shockingly hot sex scenes (not fit for kids like Matilda to watch, details below), of their new film, Blue Valentine.
In a sweet and funny essay in New York Times yesterday, Brooklyn writer Albert Stern recounts a breakfast encounter between his 2-year-old son, Eliot and Matilda Ledger, the 3-year-old daughter of Michelle Williams and Heath Ledger.
The kids start out banging on tables together in the back of a Brooklyn coffee shop. But the more interested Matilda becomes in playing, the more poor Eliot clams up. Yesterday’s post about only children got me thinking about single moms. It’s tough enough to keep your kid from drinking the toilet water with two parents in the house. With one? It’s heroic. So I salute these women who are holding down the homestead solo. I’m not talking about moms who are unmarried but have a man in the house, or moms who split custody with the dads. These are single mothers, who, for the most part, are doing the lion’s share of the heavy-lifting themselves.
Sure, it’s ideal to have two involved parents, but one truly loving parent is a beautiful thing (and more than many children in this country can claim).
1. Michelle Williams:
Celebrities do everything to excess so it’s no surprise they take dressing their children to another level. Hand me downs and just sticking your kid in anything and letting them get dirty is not something you would ever see the likes of mini fashion icon Suri Cruise associated with. And yes, I said fashion icon despite the fact that she’s 3 years old.
Suri has worn a ton of expensive outfits, but she isn’t the only one. Click through to take a look at the cost of one of her dresses and find out some of the other super-pricey items celebrity kids are sporting. Prepare yourself to be jealous!
Busy Phillips and Michelle Williams took their kids to the park over the weekend and boy are their arms tired. Busy had daughter Birdie, 1, in tow and Michelle was carrying 4-year-old Matilda. I want to see how Busy manages to climb on the jungle gym in those boots.
Now that her relationship with Spike Jonze has come to an end and Michelle Williams has had some time to reflect, she’s ready to talk more about Heath Ledger, Spike and how much Matilda reminds her of her father. Continue reading »
At the time of his death from an accidental overdose, Heath Ledger was filming Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Gilliam went on to finish the film using three other actors to play Ledger’s role – versions of his character in the film are also played by Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell.
