Bill Clinton was spotted at Gigi Trattoria having lunch in Rhinebeck, N.Y., today. Hundreds of people and media gathered to get a glimpse of the former President who is in town for the multi-million dollar wedding of his daughter Chelsea Clinton and her beloved, Marc Mezvinsky. Hopefully he didn’t fill up on lunch — he has an estimated $250,000 rehearsal dinner to attend tonight in an exquisitely refurbished stone barn at Grasmere Estate! Who knew the wedding of Chelsea Clinton to Marc Mezvinsky would draw so much press, speculation and, in some cases, criticism? It’s been estimated that the Clinton wedding will cost somewhere between $2 million and (gulp!) $5 million, which has some people venting that it’s an over-the-top spectacle that is ridiculously excessive and just plain tacky.

Chelsea Clinton, 30, shown here in 1995 at age 15, grew up in the public eye, having to endure the cameras and public scrutiny during those awkward years when the rest of us dodged photographs except for the obligated yearbook photos. According to ABC News, Chelsea’s star-studded affair taking place July 31 in tony Rhinebeck, N.Y., is estimated to cost $2 million, about 20 times Jenna Bush’s 2008 wedding, which is thought to have set the Bush’s back about $100,000. And Chelsea’s big day will cost a whopping 100 times the national average of about $20,000. Luckily the Clintons, estimated to be worth about $34 million, can afford it. We’ve heard all about the exclusive Rhinebeck, N.Y., location of Chelsea Clinton’s wedding to fiance Marc Mezvinsky. But what about the all-important rehearsal dinner? Well, it too will be spectacular, taking place at the Grasmere, a lavish 500-acre estate. The dinner itself will take place in a gloriously refurbished barn on the property with a breathtaking view of hayfields and the Hudson Valley sunset.
