Earlier Famecrawler told you about the divorce of The Real Housewives of DC Cat Ommanney and her husband Charles. Their break up was directly caused by being on a reality show and they’re not the only ones who’ve had cameras and fame wreck their marriage. Plenty of reality TV couples have split under the pomp and pressure.
Let’s take a look:
Kate Gosselin appeared on the Emmys last night; “Kate Plus 8″ airs a new episode tonight. Coincidence? Probably not. No matter what you say about Gosselin (ah, so much to say), lack of PR savvy is certainly not one of her faults.
So what will happen on “Kate?” Well, she takes the kids to New York, which happens to be going through a sweltering heat wave. So the children will be sweaty. And the journey will be long: They’re going on the train. I’m wondering, do the Gosselins get their own car? Can you imagine getting on the train and just riding with them to NYC?

We all heard about reality TV star Kate Gosselin’s $7,000 haircut earlier this year, in anticipation of her “Dancing with the Stars” appearance. But apparently her kids’ hair only requires a $13 shear.
You multiply that by eight, and it’s still a relatively reasonable $104, or about $6,900 less than mom paid.
But give it to Kate, she looked great as she stepped out with the “Kate Plus 8″ camera crew to take the kids to get those real-people-priced haircuts.

Kate Gosselin calls herself “Clean Slate Kate” and is filming not one, but two new TV shows. Jon Gosselin has yet another girlfriend—one who spend a fair amount of time with the kids. A year ago—heck, maybe even two months ago—this all would have been hashed out in the tabloids as a daily back and forth, in a Kate’s-a-bad-mom, Jon’s-a-deadbeat-dad dialogue.
But now? Kate’s singing a different tune.
“At this very moment, things are peaceful,” Kate told MSNBC. “He’s agreeing to every other weekend and dinner nights. I think that’s a perfect amount of time (with the kids). The custody mess has been dropped by him and so I think he’s realized that it’s best that they’re at home in their house where they belong, with me the majority of the time. Kate Gosselin scored the cover of People this week fresh off her return to the DWTS stage. Yes, it seems like we hear about her all the time, so you have to question, “What could we possibly not know at this point?”
Turns out there is actually a lot. While we’ve seen her terrible dancing, looked at photos of her in the yard with the kids, and heard everything we can about Jon’s one second custody suit, joblessness, girlfriends, and move to be closer to the family, it’s hard to know how all of this makes Kate feel emotionally.
The sextuplets spent this year’s birthday frolicking with dolphins at Discovery Cove, a far cry from the uncomfortable party they had last year when Kate and Jon were seriously on the fritz. Kate tells People; “The birthday party last year was the beginning of me really realizing that there was no going back. It was pretty obvious at that party.”
Kate says that things have not calmed down. The pair still do not have a set custody schedule which has been causing lots of stress. In order for the kids to be okay and feel that life is fine, she has had to internalize everything.
The Jon Gosselin half of the Gosselin sextuplets birthday extravaganza got underway yesterday when Jon picked the kids up from school and brought them over to his new bachelor pad for the very first time. The kids were spotted poking around, moving around the chairs on the balcony and checking out the view of…the parking lot? Jon’s photographers? I’m not really sure.
Regardless, there was something oddly touching about this set of photos. I mean, Jon and Kate have been divorced for awhile now, and this isn’t his first apartment. But we usually see Jon puttering around back at the family home, and while we know that he is just visiting, it is sort of easy to ignore some of the uglier parts of this situation, which is that these kids don’t live with their dad anymore.
It sort of reminded me of that scene from Mrs. Doubtfire when the kids go to Robin Williams’ apartment for the first time, and he is trying to make it nice and cheery, but the kids look a little uncomfortable and vaguely out of place and its all a bit sad and depressing.
Of course in the movie, Robin Williams spins a wild tale of deception and then winds up with his own TV show. Jon should be so lucky. Perhaps he could borrow a gray wig and a girdle, and give it a shot?

I’m not sure if there is any set of images better exemplifies the perception that Kate Gosselin is the responsible parent of their eight kids while Jon Gosselin is…well…not. Yesterday, while Kate was spotted at Party City to get gift wrap in preparation for the sextuplets turning 6 on Monday, Jon was at Target. Was he picking up paper plates? Gift bags? Cake mix? Nope. He was checking out garden gnomes and reading the tabloids.
Is this guy for real? I mean, unless his six soon-to-be 6 year olds want nothing more on the planet than a set of garden gnomes (matching of course, lest they throw Kate’s universe spinning off its axis) I’m not sure what he is doing here. And doesn’t the guy live in an apartment? Where’s he going to put the gnome?
As for the tabloids, I suppose he could be checking out his own press, although at this point, why bother? I can summarize it for him: Kate has won the PR war between the two of you, because as much as she rubs some people the wrong way, everyone—and I mean everyone—thinks you’re a loafer. And scenes like this one don’t help.
Oh, and also, Sandra Bullock adopted a baby.
