Gisele Bundchen is once again sparking controversy by expressing her opinions on motherhood, this time in particular, breastfeeding. In an interview with Harper’s Baazar, Gisele said that she thought that breastfeeding should be made a worldwide law.
Her extreme comments on the subject have definitely upset more than one formula feeding mama out there.
Gisele responded to her statements on her blog, saying that her intention in speaking out about the importance of breastfeeding came from her “passion and beliefs about children” and had “nothing to do with the law.”
If it had nothing to do with the law, then why did she even bother mentioning it? Wouldn’t it have been less judgemental to say that in her opinion, she feels that breastfeeding is best for her child? It’s almost like she wanted to push other womens’ buttons to reassure herself that she is making the right decisions as far as mothering her son, Benjamin goes.
It’s no secret that Gisele Bundchen has strong opinions about pregnancy and motherhood. She definitely takes the, “it’s my way or the highway approach” with all things baby related. Or at least that’s the impression she gave when she accused most women of turning into garbage disposals and letting themselves go while they are pregnant, leading us to believe that if we laid off the Ho-Hos, we’d look like she did post-baby.
Well, apparently there is something way more appalling to Gisele than eating a Ho-Ho. Because she’s absolutely horrified that some women in America don’t breastfeed their babies. She said that when mothers do not breastfeed, she thinks, “Are you going to give chemical food to your child when they’re so little?”
She’s so disgusted, in fact, that she thinks there should be a worldwide law requiring mothers to breastfeed their babies for at least six months.
I had no idea Gisele Bundchen had a blog, but why not? Everyone has one these days.
It’s kind of Gwyneth Paltrow GOOP-esque with butterflies and tabs for both Green Planet and Meaning of Life.
In a special Mother’s Day post Gisele writes, “I’ve always believed that to be a mom is the greatest responsibility a woman could have in her life. I’ve noticed a lot of meaningful changes in my life taking place together with a huge transformation of my priorities. The most important thing to me is to be the best mom ever to my children. I want to love them, to communicate with them, to be patient and teach them all I know.”
She also doles out some advice:
