Once a movie comes out, it’s often hard to picture any other actor in the leading role, especially if the lead is Julia Roberts. (Did you know Molly Ringwald was offered Pretty Woman — can you imagine???). And so it is with Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love where by all accounts she lights up the screen as she traces Elizabeth Gilbert’s steps through Italy, India and Bali. But she almost didn’t take the role. Why? Her number one priority, her family. Roberts has three children with husband Danny Moder: twins Hazel and Finn, 5, and younger brother Henry, 3. Eat Pray Love opens this week and is based on the book of the same name by Elizabeth Gilbert. The book follows Gilberts’ year long mission of self discovery through Italy, India and Bali. During the ‘Pray’ section of the book, Gilbert meets a man we come to know as ‘Richard from Texas’. In the movie, Richard from Texas is played brilliantly by Richard Jenkins.
Jenkins is married to Sharon Rayna Friedrick with whom he has two children, Sarah Pamela and Andrew Dale, and is probably best known for playing the deceased patriarch Nathaniel Fisher in Six Feet Under.
In Eat Pray Love, Jenkins plays his character of Richard from Texas who, according to Gilbert, speaks “from a profound wellspring of real-life experience that infused his words with a radical truth.” with incredible skill. While as not to give away any of the movie for those of you who haven’t read the book, Jenkins steals almost every scene he is in with Julia Roberts. He is a bright light in a movie that has an already strong cast of characters, and I have a feeling that his name will be amongst those tossed in the ring for Oscar consideration.

Bachelorette fans many have noticed that last night’s episode featured a supremely uncomfortable moment last night, and I’m not talking about the interaction between Bachelorette Ali and the caught-in-his-past Frank. I’m talking about what happened during the commercials. An hour into The Bachelorette‘s two hour show, an ad ran for the movie Eat, Pray, Love. That’s the Julia Roberts flick based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s memoir of the same name — a memoir about a woman ditching her marriage, deciding to go at life solo, forgoing having kids.

In case there was any doubt – celebrities really are nothing like us. Here’s Julia Roberts, husband Danny Moder and their kids Hazel, Phinnaeus and Henry along with a whole gaggle of assistants and nannies going on vacation. Not only that, they’re going to visit their ‘Uncle’ George Clooney at his Italian villa on Lake Como. Yeah, I visited my Uncle George for a vacation once, but he lives in a trailer behind the laundromat.
