Julia Roberts Learns Her Lesson – Stay Away from Religion and Politics
Eat Pray Love star Julia Roberts has decided it’s time to stick to acting and stop talking about religion.
The move comes after she mentioned converting to Hinduism in the current issue of Elle magazine. What followed was a flurry of press on her conversion at the expense of her publicity blitz to support the movie.
Roberts was inspired by her experience reading the book Eat Pray Loveand filming the movie to explore the Hindu religion. She made a short mention of her conversion from Catholicism to Hinduism during an interview with the fashion mag.
Due to the media response to the news, she’s decided its time to focus on what she knows – acting.
EAT PRAY LOVE Review – Should It Have Been TRAVEL MEN JULIA?
EAT PRAY LOVE could have had a whole ‘nother title. It would have fared well with being called TRAVEL MEN JULIA, but just not in that order. The cinematic adaptation of the uber hit Eat Pray Love – at times – doesn’t really come off as the Elizabeth Gilbert story, rather it seems to be all about Julia Roberts. Yes, Julia is playing Elizabeth, but being cursed with such a superstardom, it can be hard to divorce Julia Roberts the celebrity from Julia Roberts the actress. Myself, I kept on thinking, ‘oh there’s Julia in Italy, oh there’s Julia in India, oh there’s Julia in Bali.’ But maybe I had that reaction because there is just so much Julia in the film. She is in almost every scene and the camera, it loves her. There are long shots of her eating, praying and well, loving… Continue reading »
Richard Jenkins as ‘Richard from Texas’
Eat Pray Love opens this week and is based on the book of the same name by Elizabeth Gilbert. The book follows Gilberts’ year long mission of self discovery through Italy, India and Bali. During the ‘Pray’ section of the book, Gilbert meets a man we come to know as ‘Richard from Texas’. In the movie, Richard from Texas is played brilliantly by Richard Jenkins.
Jenkins is married to Sharon Rayna Friedrick with whom he has two children, Sarah Pamela and Andrew Dale, and is probably best known for playing the deceased patriarch Nathaniel Fisher in Six Feet Under.
In Eat Pray Love, Jenkins plays his character of Richard from Texas who, according to Gilbert, speaks “from a profound wellspring of real-life experience that infused his words with a radical truth.” with incredible skill. While as not to give away any of the movie for those of you who haven’t read the book, Jenkins steals almost every scene he is in with Julia Roberts. He is a bright light in a movie that has an already strong cast of characters, and I have a feeling that his name will be amongst those tossed in the ring for Oscar consideration.

Teri Hatcher and Julia Roberts: Celebrities who Don’t do Botox
Teri Hatcher, star of Desperate Housewives, posted a photo album on her Facebook fan page entitled “Oy with the Botox!”
The 45-year-old actress and mom posted nine pictures of herself wrinkling up her face. Fresh out of the shower and make-up free, she wrote she thought about all the critics.
“Love it or hate it, my face that is, no surgery, no implants, no matter what “they” say. Decided I’d shoot myself in to reveal some truths about “beauty” and hope it makes you all easier on yourself.”
Teri posted a series of photos with various expressions to show her lines and veins.
“I can be mad, or confused or sad and tired. Julia Roberts had that same vein in her forehead in Eat Pray Love. Proud of Julia for being a real woman on a real journey.”
In Elle Magazine’s September issue, Julia Roberts spoke out about her views on self-image. “It’s unfortunate that we live in such a panicked, dysmorphic society where women don’t even give themselves a chance to see what they’ll look like as older persons,” she said.
“I want to have some idea of what I’ll look like before I start cleaning the slates. I want my kids to know when I’m pissed, when I’m happy, and when I’m confounded. Your face tells a story… and it shouldn’t be a story about your drive to the doctor’s office,” Julia added.
Julia Roberts: on Husband, Family and Twins Ready to Start School
As Julia Roberts enjoys the spotlight with the premiere of her latest film Eat Pray Love, she’s preparing herself for some big changes in her personal life.
Her two eldest children are starting school.
The 42-year-old actress, who is mom to 5-year-old twins, Hazel and Phinneaus and 3-year-old Henry with husband Daniel Moder, is getting ready to send her first-borns to school – something which she admits to having “bittersweet” feelings about.
“Am I finding it hard? Yes and no,” Julia said. “I think it’s bittersweet, I’m sure, but I think for them, they don’t want to go and Henry does wanna go!”
“I’m in the middle,” she adds.
I can empathize with Julia as my eldest is starting Grade 1 which means he’ll be in school all day every day.
5 Reasons Julia Roberts Is Perfect For ‘Eat, Pray, Love’
The long-awaited film version of the popular book, “Eat, Pray, Love” will debut this weekend, and already scores of people are hotly anticipating its arrival–partially, for sure, because of its star: Julia Roberts. With such a successful and meaningful–to so many–book, we’re sure it wasn’t exactly easy for the casting directors to select someone to play author Elizabeth Gilbert’s role. But we are confident they picked the right woman in Roberts, and here are five reasons why.
1. She’s relatable. Millions of women read “Eat, Pray, Love” long before anyone ever thought it would be a movie. And just as many women connected to the story on so many ultra-personal levels. In order for the movie to be successful, the actress who played the lead had to be someone viewers could relate to–and Roberts is just that person. There hasn’t been a role she’s played where we didn’t leave the theatre thinking of her as anything but a friend, and we’re sure this time will be no different.
2. She’s been on her own journey–with us. Julia Roberts has been, uh, around the block a few times when it comes to acting. This mega-watt star has been making us laugh, cry, and fawn for more years than we can count–so much so that we feel we know her. “Eat, Pray, Love” is all about a woman’s journey, and we almost feel like we’ve seen Roberts go on her own personal journey, leaving a piece of her heart in each movie and TV show she does. It’s almost as if she really did have a parallel experience to Gilbert–and we got to come along for the ride.
3. She’s not an obnoxious starlet. Had the producers decided to go with an actress who has really inserted herself into the spotlight–complete with planned paparazzi run-ins and planted articles in the tabloids, we’d have a lot more trouble enjoying her role as the soul-searching lead in Eat, Pray, Love. Roberts, however, has always seemed to be one of those rare, down-to-earth celebrities who, despite her massive success, has maintained her modesty. Continue reading »
