The Sound Of Music has been my absolute favorite movie ever since I was a small child, and it is still on the top of my list today of movies that I could watch over and over again.
The hit musical from 1965 starred Julie Andrews as Maria Von Trapp, and told the story of her life in Austria as the governess, and eventual mother of the seven children of Captain Georg Von Trapp, played by Christopher Plummer. Her iconic scene singing “The Hills Are Alive” in the middle of the Alps is one of the most recognized in movie history, and the story has lived on and still fascinates people to this day.
The actors who played the seven children in the Von Trapp family all went on to have thriving careers, and will always be known for starring in one of the most memorable films of all time.
Here is an update on where they are today:
Charmain Carr – Liesl Von Trapp: After dancing around the gazebo and singing “16 going on 17″, Charmain Carr is still internationally recognized as Liesl, and still does radio and TV appearances related to the role. She wrote two books about her experiences making the film, and spent many years acting in commercials. She has two daughters who are full-grown now.
Nicholas Hammond – Friedrich Von Trapp: Nicholas went on to appear in several movies, including Spiderman and Mission Impossible. He graduated from Princeton University and now lives in Australia where he continues to work in film, theater, and television.
Heather Menzies – Louisa Von Trapp: Heather continued acting in movies after playing Louisa, and she also starred in the TV show, Logan’s Run. She was married for 28 years to late actor Robert Urich, and they had two children together. She now has two grandchildren, and now works for the Robert Urich Cancer Foundation.
