Whitney Houston’s Final Film to Be Released This Summer – Will You See It?
Whitney will grace the screen one last time.
Whitney Houston‘s sudden death comes at a time when the singing phenomenon was poised to make a huge career comeback.
Sources say Whitney was recently approached to become one of the judges on The X Factor next season, as Simon Cowell looks to replace fired judges Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones.
But even though that project is now a dashed dream, fans can still see the star one last time when her final film, Sparkle, hits theaters on August 17.
Sony Pictures has decided to proceed with the scheduled release date.
MSNBC quoted a studio representative who made an official statement: “Like all those who knew her and loved her, we are shocked and saddened, and the world has lost an incomparable talent. Right now, our thoughts are with her daughter, her family and her friends.”
The film is a remake of a 1976 movie based on the career of the Supremes. American Idol winner Jordin Sparks stars as one of a trio of sisters who go from church choir to music superstardom, but not without bumps along the way. Whitney plays the girls’ mother.
Whitney received critical and audience acclaim for her roles in The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale and The Preacher’s Wife, and her return to acting could have sent her star rising again.
Instead, it will stand as a sad reminder of a career cut short too soon.
