Kate shares her motherly wisdom.

When you’re a mother who’s been through a very bitter – and verrry public – divorce, you learn a few valuable life lessons along the way.

Kate Gosselin shared some of her insights today on the Q&A channel of her website.

A fan from Norway asks her, “How to best survive a divorce with children? How to keep up my spirit? What motto to keep me going?” (So her English isn’t perfect – well, how’s your Norwegian?)

Kate admits that it can be hard just to function right after the end of a marriage; there were times, she says, when she wondered why the world was going on while her life was in tatters.

“My best advice to you: keep on going,” she advises. “Literally, get up each day and put one foot in front of the other.”

Kate goes on to say that keeping the kids “protected, safe and surrounded by your love” should be a mom’s biggest priority. “It’s important that you remind them daily that this is a ‘big person’ problem and that it is NOT their fault. Remind them that both of you still love them.”

Divorce can be a terrifying experience, but Kate encourages parents to “embrace [the fear], learn from it and become stronger because of it.”

Finally, she tells her overseas fan, “You will get through it with some difficult and painful memories but focusing on survival for yourself, peace for your kids and following your heart will guide you through!”

Sure, it’s probably a lot easier to get through a divorce when you’re a reality star who gets TV gigs, family trips around the world and offers to write website blogs and host Caribbean cruises.

But I’ve got to admit that Kate’s right on target here. And if her words give comfort and strength to other moms going through the headaches and heartaches of divorce, then I’ll give her props. (This time.)
